Keeping the Christmas experience at Killerton inside normal opening hours this year means it will be free to National Trust members. It will be open from Saturday, November 26, to Monday, January 2, 2023, but closed Christmas Day and Boxing Day.Ī spokesperson for the National Trust: "This year visitors will be able to see the house and chapel at Killerton traditionally decorated for Christmas and families can take part in a festive activity trail around the grounds. This year it has been confirmed that the event won't be repeated at Killerton and its festive events will only be held within normal opening hours. More than 900 people have reacted to the Trust's own official Facebook announcement about the event. It was alleged by critics to stop people viewing the lights for free, but the National Trust insisted it had not reduced its opening hours. The out-of-hours event, which was run by a specialist lighting events company, was held on selected dates from November 26 until January 2. Members were charged £75 for a family ticket. The cost of the trail - up to £28 per person with an additional £8 car parking fee for non-members - was condemned as being 'insane' and the National Trust was accused of creating an elitist event. When it was held at the venue on the outskirts of Exeter for the first time last year it caused a huge public outcry over ticket prices. The National Trust has confirmed it won't be bringing back its controversial Killerton House Christmas winter light trail this year.
